Reliable Earth Leakage Current Detection for ELR Systems
The HS Grup CBCT (Core Balance Current Transformer) Series is designed for accurate detection of residual and earth leakage currents when used together with Earth Leakage Relays (ELR). The toroidal and split-core CBCT models provide high sensitivity, excellent insulation performance, and reliable operation for industrial, commercial, and power distribution applications.
These current transformers continuously monitor the vector sum of all conductors passing through the core and generate a proportional signal to the connected earth leakage relay whenever leakage current occurs.

Ideal for retrofit installations where disconnecting existing conductors is difficult.
How CBCT Works
The CBCT monitors all phase conductors and neutral passing through its core. Under normal operating conditions, the sum of currents equals zero. When earth leakage occurs, an imbalance is detected and transmitted to the connected Earth Leakage Relay, which can then trigger an alarm or disconnect the circuit.
Installation Guidelines
- Pass all phase conductors and neutral through the CBCT.
- Do not pass the protective earth (PE) conductor through the CBCT.
- Ensure all conductors pass in the same direction.
- For cable lengths exceeding 1 meter between CBCT and ELR, use shielded or twisted-pair cable.
- Mount the CBCT securely to avoid vibration and conductor movement.
